Overwritten Proc Backup Commands
Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 — Our records show we have shipped you a copy of DDMS 8.15.x, 8.16.x, 8.17.0, 8.17.40, or 8.17.41 (where .x stands for any subrelease).
In these releases, we have discovered that the installer may inadvertently overwrite a command file for Microsoft Backup utility in the DDMS BIN folder, which may be used by some DDMS day-end or month-end procs. (QC#55136)
We will automatically ship you a new software update CD for DDMS 8.17.42 or higher, which will include software that no longer inadvertently overwrites backup command files.
This issue does not affect dealers who:
- Have not loaded 8.15.x, 8.16.x, 8.17.0, 8.17.40, or 8.17.41.
- Only back up their DDMS systems manually (launching their backup utility in person from the Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools menu).
OR
- Use a third-party backup program (other than Microsoft's Backup utility).
This issue only affects dealers who:
- Installed a DDMS software update for 8.15.x, 8.16.x, 8.17.0, 8.17.40, or 8.17.41,
AND
- Backup their DDMS data using Microsoft's Backup through a DDMS proc. This issue may result in failure to backup files as desired at day-end or month-end.
If you've loaded one of the affected versions listed above, please follow these two steps to determine if this issue affects you, and take appropriate action:
- Open My Computer, then double-click the C: or D: hard drive where your DDMS files reside, then double-click the DDMS folder, then double-click the BIN folder.
- Important: Right-click the BACKUP.CMD file, and select Edit to show the contents in Notepad. (Do not double-click, run, or open this file.)
- If BACKUP.CMD shows only the following three lines...
REM ***** Shutdown SQL Server services ***** NET STOP SQLAgent$ECI2 NET STOP MSSQL$ECI2
...then close the file, choosing No if prompted to save changes, click here to email your team at ddmssupport@ecisolutions.com with the subject "QC55136 Backup Overwritten" and please include your account number and shipping address for confirmation purposes. One of your DDMS Support Team members will contact you to ensure your data will be backed up properly.
- If BACKUP.CMD shows something like the standard lines shown below, it's fine. Close the file, choosing No if prompted to save changes. No further action is required. Do not load affected software.
