Sales and Commissions
It is important to understand the flow of your system, from order entry to paying commissions.
Because each company is different from every other company, it is essential that you understand the flow of your own system. Without that knowledge, problem solving and troubleshooting can be extremely difficult. Knowing the reason for and effect of each action in your system prevents you from making time-consuming mistakes and allows you to solve problems quickly by finding the source of the problem more easily. Following is a brief outline of the system flow for sales and commissions.
In order entry, each ticket has a status code, which indicates its progress toward becoming an invoice. When an order is invoiced, it moves to a status B.
At the end of each business day, you run the (MA) Daily Backup Procedure. This moves all completed invoices (those at status B) from the file P-MASTER to the file JOUR-S. From that file, you can only change invoices through the [J] Journal Actions action code in the (G) Order Entry screen.
Note: Because you can change costs through the Journal Actions function in the (G) screen, you should limit your salespeople’s knowledge of this function.
If you specified that commissions are only calculated on paid invoices, when an invoice is paid, the total is posted to the file JOUR-P. Changes to JOUR-P can be made through the (+P) Journal Verify and Edit screen.
