Copy Utilities
You use the copy utilities to move files from one disk unit to another. In Windows-based systems, many of the functions available in the (Z) screen are no longer applicable. In the Compiler Utilities portion of the screen, the following functions are available:
[C2] Copy single file
[C3] Copy all files
[C5] Merge files
Note: All of the copy utilities are dedicated functions. Be sure that no one is using the system and that all other terminals are in the Master Menu screen before performing any of these functions.

At the Volume prompt, enter the unit’s volume serial and press Tab. The volume serials are displayed at the top of the screen.
Note: If you are copying a file to a diskette, press Enter at the Volume field. This field defaults to the volume serial already assigned to the diskette during the initialization procedure.
The N=Normal copy R=Recover deleted records, I=No duplicate keys prompt appears. At this point, you can choose whether to recover deleted records when copying the file, eliminate duplicate records when copying the file, or copy the file as is.

You can copy more than one file at a time using this function. It is commonly used for copying the program libraries from unit to unit, but can be used for copying all types of files between units or to streamer tape or diskette.
Note: If you are copying a file or several files to a new diskette, you must first prepare the diskette for use in your system. Preparing diskettes requires two steps: formatting and initializing.
You can also copy only specific files by marking them with an X. When copying between disk units, this function provides the option of initializing the unit you are copying to, which clears all data on that unit before copying.
Files can be copied to or from a streamer tape or diskette.
Note: You must perform a system shutdown to clear the cache controller before you back up the system. Failure to do this may result in the loss of data in the cache controller. When the system displays the date and time prompt, either turn the system off manually or press Reset.
To copy all files to streamer tape or diskette:
At the Unit To Copy Files From prompt, enter the number of the disk unit from which to copy files. If you enter a one-digit number, press Tab.

To copy only specified files from a text file (files created through the text editor or word processor), type F. Using this function, you can back up specified files from any unit on your system in one step. To do this, create a text file that contains the names and volume serials of files from any unit on your system. When you create a text file in the text editor or the word processor, specify the file name and the volume serial in the far left position. Make sure there is a comma (,) between the file name and the volume serial, for example, C-MASTER,SR.
Note: Failure to specify a comma between the file name and the volume serial in the text file prevents the backup from running.

To copy files by selecting their volume serial, type V.
The system displays the Enter Volume To Select prompt. Enter the volume serial of the disk unit containing the files to copy. An X appears beside the name of each file from that unit.
If you have selected files that don't need to be copied, you can clear your selections and start over. To do this, press Tab until you return to the Select prompt. Press Enter and type C. This removes the X from beside the file name of every marked file displayed on the screen.
However, if you also marked files that were displayed on a previous page, these file names are still marked. To clear these files, press Esc to return to the prompt Unit To Copy File From and begin the copy procedure again.

When the system has finished copying, the system displays the Copy Completed message. The system also repeats the prompt Unit to Copy Files From.
You can merge several files into one using this function. The most common use of this function is merging the sales journal files from several months into one large file. However, you must have sufficient space on the disk unit to do so.
