Item Concepts

Stock classes are used to classify items. Generally, these classes are used to separate direct-buy items from wholesaler items, and stocked items from non-stocked items. Stock classes affect purchasing and are used to specify which groups of items to update during item updates. Stock classes also affect pricing and Order Entry. In addition, you can sort and select most inventory reports by stock class.

If you load items through O/PUS, the default stock class is W, but you can specify a different stock class. Therefore, one of the immediate considerations after loading your items is setting your stock classes.
