About Customer Routes
You can now assign multiple inventory locations to a single route. You do this in the Route Inventory Locations window. This window is useful if you have several general ledger locations (profit center locations) that also pull stock from multiple inventory locations. For example, you may maintain separate G/L locations for supplies, furniture, and machines for accounting purposes, and also sell this merchandise from different inventory locations.

To use this feature, you set up a route code and assign it a general ledger location (profit center location). You can then specify a primary and secondary location from which to pull inventory. You can also specify a separate inventory location for pulling furniture items, making a total of three different inventory locations. These inventory locations' quantities and sales histories are affected by order entry.
Once the route is set up with primary and secondary inventory locations, you can assign it to a customer's shipping address or to the customer’s master account. Accounts are assigned to routes using the following criteria:
Route Field in the (AX) Screen or Customer Shipto/Attentions /Tab: This field is searched first. If a route is assigned to a customer's shipping address, this is the default route used for the order. (If you set up a route and assign it to a customer's shipping address, the route determines the inventory locations from which stock is pulled.)
Route Field in the (AQ) Screen or Customer Buyers/Manifest Tab: If a shipping address is not assigned a route in the (AX) screen, this field is searched second to determine which route to use.
Route Field in the (A) Screen or Customer Master Tab: If you do not specify a route for a shipping address in the (AX) or (AQ) screens, this field is searched last to determine which route to use for the order.
When pulling inventory, the primary location is examined first to see if the order can be completely filled. If it cannot, the secondary location is used. If neither location can completely fill the customer's order, the primary location is used.
