About Customer Aliases
Similar to vendor aliases, a customer alias is simply another name for a customer in your database; another way of identifying the customer. For example, a large corporation may have many offices throughout the United States. By specifying customer aliases for a customer's master or department account, you can retrieve a customer by its alias in order entry. This allows you to quickly retrieve the customer for whom you are placing the order.
Note: This feature is not included in all software packages and may require authorization. For more information, contact ECi sales.
You can create customer aliases using the Phone box in the Customer Master tab. You can use the Name and Contact boxes to enter any information to help identify the customer — a variation of the customer's name or an additional contact you frequently use within the company, for example.
Once the customer alias has been created, the original customer account is linked to the alias. You must build a customer alias index, which lets you retrieve a customer by its alias. After you build the index, you must set a parameter to retrieve a customer by its alias. Finally, you can view the alias.
