Univeral Product Code (UPC) Numbers
are unique numbers for each item. You enter UPC numbers in the Item database.
The UPC Code box is in the Item Master tab.
You can enter UPC numbers manually or automatically.
If you load an item database file, such as O/PUS, you can
automatically load the UPC numbers for each item.
Automatically Loading UPC Numbers
If you decide to load UPC numbers from the O/PUS database, consider the following:
This feature is used with bar code scanners on the DDMS system. If you
don't use a bar code scanner, do not load the UPCs.
The UPC number is a unique code for the product, not the selling unit.
When you scan the product's bar code, its unit of measure is displayed according
to how it is set up in the Item window, regardless of the product's package
that you scan.
You must set up the customer UPC with account number UPC in the Customer
window.
During the load, the UPC number loads into the I-ALIAS file under the
customer 'UPC'. After the load is complete, go to the (ES) Inventory Alias
screen. Perform the Xerox function from customer 'UPC' to 'COMMON' in order
to have the UPC Alias reference for all customers. Once the Xerox function
is complete, delete all customer UPC aliases from the (ES) screen.
O/PUS gives you the ability to load only the UPC number for the item stock
class you specify in the Global Inventory Parameters window. This lets you
be selective in loading UPC numbers. For example, you may want to load only
UPC numbers for items you stock, or for retail items.
Manually Entering UPC Numbers
You can manually enter UPC Numbers in the Item database. Use the following
instructions:
In theDDMSMaster Menu, select the Inventory database by double-clicking the
icon.
In the Item Master tab, retrieve the item that you want to enter a UPC
Number for or create a new item record.
