About Using Alternate Items
There are several kinds of alternates in the system, including reference items, preferred substitute items, substitute items, discontinued items, and generic substitutes.
Note: For more information concerning alternates, see About Alternates.
When you select an item to place on an order that has any of these alternates, a dialog box opens. The name of the dialog box corresponds to the kind of alternate the item uses. For example, if the item has a reference item alternate, the Reference Item dialog box opens. Similarly, if the item has a substitute item alternate, the Substitute Item dialog box opens.
This dialog box displays item information for both the original item you selected and the alternate item. This information comes from the Item window, and cannot be changed in the dialog box. It is for display only. When this box opens, you can add the original item to the order, add the alternate item to the order, or specify that neither the original or alternate item be added.
For details on selecting an alternate item, see Selecting an Alternate Item.
