Shutting Down the System

This function lets you reboot the system from a monitor or terminal. You can also restrict access by other terminals. You should use this function in place of pressing the CTRL, ALT, and DEL keys, or the RESET button, to reboot or turn off your system.

Using this function before rebooting or turning off your system prevents damage to your data files by clearing cache memory, closing files, and emptying buffers.

  1. To shut down the system, you must first return all of the terminals to the Master Menu.

Note: Failure to do this can result in serious damage to your data records.

  1. Then, go to the (Y) System Status screen and stop all batches and printers.

  2. At the Shutdown Levels prompt, enter the code corresponding to the proper level of shutdown.

Type S to stop all terminals with the exception of the terminal you are using. Batches, printers, or modems are not affected.

Type R to reboot the machine on which it is performed.

Type M to stop all devices and put the system into maintenance mode. However, you must specify a password.

Type E to reboot all of the machines on a PGDLink system at once. ECi recommends that you reboot each machine individually.
