General Ledger Responsibility Centers Parameters

Responsibility centers affect many different parts of the system.

Note: This feature is not included in all software packages and may require authorization. For more information, contact ECi sales.

  1. You must set up general ledger departments for your responsibility centers. The new cost centers (responsibility centers) let you view or report information about this cost center over multiple locations. The cost centers can also be set by item.

In the G/L Departments window, you set up type codes. Type codes allow you to group item departments so that you can limit by business types in the Responsibility Center Parameters. You should also set up the COG Use Cost RC box. See General Ledger Departments Parameters.

  2. Set up Responsibility Center Parameters. Use this dialog box to set up responsibility centers. You set up type code limits for each responsibility center in this dialog box. Type codes allow you to group item departments so that you can limit by business types. For example, you might create a type code, OP, for office products. You might need 10 different responsibility centers for OP because you have 10 different territories. See Setting Up Responsibility Center Parameters.

  3. Next, you must set up the corporate responsibility center in the General Ledger General Configuration Parameters. Once you set up these parameters, the system will use the information entered here to govern your system. (Any previous parameters set up in the (L2) screen will be replaced.) Enter the default corporate responsibility center in the Corporate Responsibility Center text box. See General Ledger General Configuration Parameters.

  4. You must also type Y in the Activate Extended GL Numbers and Responsibility Centers text box in the General Ledger General Configuration Parameters.

  5. Assign responsibility centers to the salesperson in the R/C box in the Salesperson Master tab. See In the Salesperson Master Tab.

  6. You can also assign responsibility centers to a technician in the R/C box in the Salesperson Technician tab. See In the Salesperson Technician Tab.

  7. In the Customer database, you can assign a primary salesperson and additional salespersons to responsibility centers. If you assign responsibility centers to salespersons in the Customer database, the settings set here will override any other settings. See Setting Up Customer Responsibility Centers.

  8. Set up Vendor Cost of Goods. In the Vendor Master tab, complete the Expense G/L #, Sales/Purchase Major, and the Use RC boxes. See In the Vendor Master Tab.

  9. Responsibility centers also affect order entry and serialized. For more information, see Understanding Responsibility Centers and Salespersons in Order Entry and Understanding Serialized Responsibility Centers.
