Performing the Daily Procedure
The daily procedure, commonly called the (MA), is part of your day-end steps. If you are running this procedure for the first time or have questions concerning the (MA), see About the (MA) Procedure.
Note: This procedure is a dedicated function. Make sure no one is using the system while performing this procedure. Before you begin the (MA), perform a system shutdown using the (Z) [E6] System Shutdown function. For instructions, refer to View Utilities.
Double-click
.
From the Keyop Menu, double-click
. The (M) Operational Procedures screen opens.
In the (MA) screen, select the [A] Execute Daily Backup Procedure action code.
At the Are You Sure prompt, type Y.
A message appears, explaining the tasks the (MA) procedure will perform. When you finish reading the message, type C to continue.
At the Do You Want to Do a Daily Backup message, indicate whether to backup any units on the system. We recommend that you not backup at this time. Backup up your system should be done before you begin the (MA) procedure.
Type N (default) to not backup any units.
Type Y to perform a file-by-file backup. If you select this option, a printer must be attached to port 8 of your first I/O pad. At the Insert New Tape message, press Enter.
A list of messages appears as the files are flushed or compressed. After all the messages display, the Compression Complete message appears, press Enter.
Note: The Records Read column displays the total number of records in the P-MASTER file. The Records Purged column displays the total number of completed line items being flushed to the JOUR-S file. The Records Kept column displays the total number of incomplete pick records that remain in the P-MASTER file.
The cursor returns to the Master Menu. If the (MA) procedure aborted, because the disk is full or because someone rebooted, for example, you must restore the backup tape and redo all day-end procedures, including the (MA). If you don't, all files that were updated with daily sales information are duplicated, and you must manually remove the duplication. Before you attempt to access any files, perform the (Z) [E6] System Shutdown procedure. For details, see View Utilities.
