Parameter Definitions

You use the (MJ) Procedure File Select screen to run your procedure files. This screen lets you display your proc files much like your report selector screens. You simply choose from a user-defined list and let the system execute the procedure file for you. However, just as you must catalog your report selectors so they display on report selector screens, you must also catalog the procedure files to display in the (MJ) screen. You do this in the (LM2) Procedure File Parameters screen. In addition, once you create your categories, there’s no need to re-enter them. They remain in the system, so you can consistently run your procs whenever needed.

The fields in the (LM2) screen serve as a file cabinet for your proc files. In this cabinet, there are 26 drawers each of which has 36 folders. The 26 drawers serve as major categories under which you list your specific procedure files. For each category, you can have up to 36 different proc files. You assign each of your categories a letter — A through Z, and each of your proc files within each category a number — 1 through 36.

Since the categories are user-defined, you can create those that are most useful to you and your business. You may want to use categories to separate your procs by subject. For example, you may have a category for your sales reports and another for your period-end procedures. Or, you may want to create categories for specific users — one for salesperson Jane and another for order entry clerk Dave.

In the (LM2) screen, you can also assign a password to each category you create. This lets you control which users have access to certain functions. For example, you may want your salespersons to be able to launch their sales reports, but you may want to limit day-end proc access to a specific order-writer.
