About Program Security
Within each DDMS application, certain procedures should only be performed by authorized personnel. Assign passwords for these procedures to maintain security. These passwords are assigned through the (X) Program Security screen.
There are three types of screen passwords used in the (X) screen: Update, Inquiry, and Master. Before you begin assigning passwords, you must decide what type of passwords you assign to which screens.
An Update password allows the user to view and change information in a specific screen.
An Inquiry password lets users view information in a specific screen, but does not allow them to change the information.
Notes: If you do not specify an Inquiry password, but you do specify an Update password, you must enter the Update password to use the inquire function. If you do not enter the Update password, you cannot access the screen. In addition, if you specify an Inquiry password but no Update password, the Inquiry password acts as an Update password, allowing users to change screen information.
The Master password acts as an Update password for all screens, and can override all passwords but those for the (Z) System Utilities screen.
You can assign passwords to all major screens through the (X) screen.
Additional considerations for setting screen passwords:
Assign a Password to the Posting to Check File Dialog Box
Assign a Password to the (I) and (H) Screens
Assign Update Passwords, Not Inquiry Passwords, to the (J) and (K) Screens.
Assign Passwords to Each Utility in the (Z) Screen
