Converting Multiple Units of Measure
The multiple units of measure feature was added to simplify the sale of items purchased in one unit of measure and sold in a different unit of measure. There are two types of conversions for multiple units of measure:
Converting O/PUS items
Converting existing items.
After the conversion, any items that cannot be converted are printed on the Exceptions Report, with an explanation of why the item was not converted.
Before You Convert Items
Before you convert items with the (+EW) conversion program, you must call DDMS for authorization. However, before you decide to use this feature, there are several things you should consider. See Before You Convert Items.
Converting O/PUS items
When O/PUS loads multiple units, either the retail unit, list unit, or buy unit (depending on which unit you specify) loads as the master unit of measure in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab. This is the current selling unit for the item.
The remaining units load in the third and fourth Unit boxes in the Units of Measure boxes in the Item Settings tab. The smaller of the remaining units loads in the third Unit box and the larger loads in the fourth Unit box.
If you are going to convert items to multiple selling units, before you run the conversion, you should determine which items to convert. To do this, you can view the available selling units for an item in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab and the third Unit box in the Item Settings tab.
Note: Any unit shown in the fourth Unit box is for information purposes only.
You cannot sell these items in multiple units, or use these units for reference purposes, until you run the (+EW) conversion program.
Converting existing items
Existing items are items you enter manually, without setting up the units of measure during the manual add process. The existing item has one unit of measure in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab (the master unit). You can use the (+EW) conversion program for the following conversions:
Convert an existing item to multiple selling units of measure.
Convert an existing item to multiple information units of measure (to use for reference only). The reference units in Order Entry display, but you can only sell the items in the master unit of measure set up in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab.
When you convert existing items, you must define the units. (When O/PUS loads multiple units, a flag is set to indicate which is the larger selling unit and which is the smaller selling unit).
Warning: The conversion program converts the item to any unit(s) you specify. For this reason, you must be very careful when defining the units for an item.
