Item Basic Procedures

  1. Double-click graphics\INVENTORYICON16.gif. The Item window opens, displaying information for the last item selected.

  2. Click graphics\ADD_A_RECORD16.gif. The boxes in the Item window are cleared.

Tip: Click the Location box and enter the location for the item, if it is not already displayed. If the Location box is not displayed in the toolbar, right-click the toolbar and select Location.

  1. In the Number box at the top of the Master tab, enter an item number for this item. We recommend that you enter the item number as a butted number. Butted numbers do not include special characters such as spaces, dashes, etc.

Note: The Number box is a key box. A key box is used to identify the item. The item number you enter must be unique. You can enter up to 15 alphanumeric characters in this box.

  1. Click the Company box at the top of the Master tab.

  2. Enter the name of the company that manufactures this item.

Note: The Company box is also a key box used to identify the item. Do not use the combination of item number and company name for another item. You can enter up to 30 characters in this box.

Tip: When you manually create an item, the item number and company are the only information you have to enter. However, we recommend that you set up the pricing and examine each of the other boxes to determine whether you need to complete them to suit your business needs.

  1. Enter the appropriate information in each box in the Master tab. For instructions, see In the Item Master Tab. If you are setting up a multiple unit of measure item, see Adding a Multiple Units of Measure Item.

  2. When you finish entering the information in the Master tab, complete the boxes in each of the other tabs. You can move to these tabs by clicking them. For instructions see, Item Window Definitions.

  3. When you finish entering all the information for this item, click graphics\SAVE-SMALL16.gif to save the item.

    If you are adding an item with the same name, the prompt This Item Already Exists appears. Click Yes to replace the item or click No to re-enter the current item. Go back to Step 3.
