Multiple Units of Measure

  1. Double-click graphics\INVENTORYICON16.gif. The Item window opens, displaying information for the last item selected.

Note: Multiple units of measure apply to all locations for the item.

  1. Add the item to use for multiple units of measure. You cannot make changes to an item already in the database. You must manually add an item (not from an external source such as O/PUS) and make it a multiple unit of measure item. If you need information on manually adding an item, see Adding an Item. Remember, if you manually add an item, you do not need to run the conversion program.

Note: You can only change items to multiple units of measure using the (+E) screen. For more information, see Using the (+EW) Screen.

  1. In the Item Master tab, you must enter the selling unit of measure in the Sell UOM box.

  1. Click the Settings tab. Use the Units of Measure boxes in this tab to set up the item with multiple units of measure.

  2. Click the first Unit box and enter the unit of measure as follows:

If you are setting up this item to use two selling units, in the first Unit box, enter the smaller of the two selling units. For example, if you are going to sell this item by the box (BX) and by the carton (CT), you enter BX in the first Unit box. This is the tracking unit of measure for the item. Go to
    Step 5.

Note: The master unit is set in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab and must be the larger of the two selling units (in the above example, CT). You can sell the item in the master unit and the tracking unit.

If you are setting up this item with information units only, in the first Unit box, enter any of the units for this item. (The order-taker can't sell the item in any other measure but the master unit.) Go to Step 5.

  1. Click the first Quantity box and enter the number of smaller units that are contained in the master unit. For example, if carton (CT) is the master unit in the Sell UOM box in the Item Master tab and there are five boxes (BX) in a carton, you would enter BX in the Unit box and 5 in the corresponding Quantity box.

  2. In the remaining Unit and Quantity boxes, you can enter any other units and quantities for this item. If you are setting up this item with multiple selling units, any remaining units you enter are for reference only. You cannot sell the item in these remaining units. You can only sell the item in the master unit and the tracking unit.

  3. Type I for information only or M for two selling (multiple) units in the Multiple or Information box. This box refers to the unit and quantity set in the first Unit and Quantity boxes.

Note: This box displays O if the multiple units were loaded with an O/PUS load and the units have not been converted with the (+EW) conversion program.

  1. Click graphics\SAVE-SMALL16.gif to save the multiple units of measure.
