About Multiple Bins
With the DDMS Multiple Bin feature, you can easily assign multiple bins to an item. You can use as many bins as you need for any particular item. The quantities in each bin are automatically tracked by bin location. This bin is assigned when a line item is entered on an order or received on a purchase order. To use this feature, you must set the Multiple Bin box in the Item Settings tab to Y.
You can specify which bin to pull the merchandise from when ordering and which bins to stock when receiving. In Order Entry, you can automatically pull from the bin with the most quantities or you can determine which bin to pull from by setting up bin codes in the (LE1) Inventory Parameters continuation screen. See In the (LE1) Screen.
If you are going to set up multiple bins, we recommend that you set the Split to a Separate Line Partial Backorders field in the (LGØ) screen to Y.
If you set up bin codes, you can specify which bins merchandise is pulled from first and last and which bins merchandise is never pulled from. In receiving, you can specify in which bins to stock the items. You can place the order quantity for an item in one bin or multiple bins. If all the items have been depleted from a bin, you can assign this bin to a different item when receiving.
For furniture dealers with a warehouse, showroom, and so on, instead of setting up different departments, you can set bins. For example, your warehouse may have 100 bins. You could define which of the bins to pull from first, last, and never. Then you could set up your showroom with bins and set these up so that merchandise is never pulled from them. If you sell a showroom piece, you can manually define this. You no longer have to deal with departments, and your inventory is automatically tracked and controlled.
In addition to entering bin locations when you create or change an item, you can update bin locations when receiving purchase orders, or change bin locations for groups of items by using the mass change procedure. (For information about purchasing, see Purchase Order Entry. For information about mass changes, see Specials. For information about setting the primary and secondary bins, see About Item Bins.)
